Gail Braccidiferro MacDonald for many years taught journalism classes as an adjunct before becoming assistant-professor-in-residence. She is a long-time freelance journalist and former newspaper reporter whose writing has won a number of awards.

Besides being a regular contributor to The New York Times Connecticut Weekly section and The Hartford Courant, her work has also been published in numerous magazines and newspapers, including Rhode Island Monthly, American Artist, VFW, Vermont Life, Newsday, USA Today, The Day's Grace, The Providence Journal, Los Angeles Times, the Journal newspapers of suburban Washington, D.C. and others. She and her husband also worked as freelance journalists in Haiti for several months.

She is active in her community and wrote and edited a local history book for a civic organization. In addition, she has worked in public relations.

Besides UConn, she has taught journalism at the University of Rhode Island, Connecticut College, The American University in Washington, DC and Marymount University in Arlington, VA. She is a UConn graduate and was a graduate fellow in journalism at The American University, where she earned her master's degree.
